- I've decided to stick it out and finish [Neuromancer](https://www.eastonpress.com/signed-editions/william-gibson-neuromancer-a-signed-edition-3120.html?ref=joeyplunkett.com). It's strange how much harder a read it's been than any point of East of Eden, but it looks like [I'm not alone in liking the book's ideas more than the reading experience](https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/1mq2lkr/i%5Freally%5Floved%5Fneuromancer%5Fbut%5Fi%5Fhated%5Freading%5Fit/?solution=14e14bb0bd25bbe114e14bb0bd25bbe1&js%5Fchallenge=1&jsc%5Ftoken=7afd7253fec22262ff1c52b1703fe9ecc17e551c5b996b2f230e5a373f5f6f00&jsc%5Forig%5Fr=&ref=joeyplunkett.com). My thought is that this is good for me: a new type of struggle with a book will be interesting to look back on. Just a few more chapters now. And [Apple's adaptation](https://tv.apple.com/us/show/neuromancer/umc.cmc.ym2z4w07kwsi1wywwxtyckr?ref=joeyplunkett.com) lands in January, so I'll be ahead of the discourse.
- I've had an espresso machine (of varying qualities) for over ten years, but I've never been into the latte art side of being a home barista. I drink a lot of espressos, [long blacks](https://youtu.be/oYpZw82HvoM?ref=joeyplunkett.com), and americanos. Two things changed that. Macy's pregnancy cut her caffeine allotment and she started craving cappuccinos (feels like the right time to shout out half-caf coffee again, and our favorite, [Power Nap by Onyx](https://onyxcoffeelab.com/products/power-nap?ref=joeyplunkett.com)). And with our recent move, I'm no longer within a few blocks of my favorite coffee shop that pours perfect tulips over velvety microfoam. So I've been on a quest to bring a better cappuccino, and the latte art to match, home. It's been more of a journey than I expected. I'm not the fastest study, but [this video on steaming milk](https://youtu.be/RREsn41scvo?ref=joeyplunkett.com) made a huge difference.
- I watched [Groundhog Day](https://youtu.be/86jI-u2zp7s?si=ZIUE3aP2gRtUmf8f&ref=joeyplunkett.com) and checked it off my ['You haven't watched X yet?!'](https://www.joeyplunkett.com/you-havent-seen-x-movie-a-list/) list. Verdict: *Should Have Watched Sooner*, a 3 out of 4 on my enjoyment scale. I really liked it but in my micro-review on the list I admit I'd rather rewatch [Palm Springs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbxUziSL4UU&ref=joeyplunkett.com). If you missed that post from a few months ago, it's a collection of every movie I could think of where people were flabbergasted I'd missed it, and it's turned out to be a fun list to work off of when deciding what to watch.
- Checking out KEXP's [new music release list](https://www.kexp.org/new/?ref=joeyplunkett.com) this week turned me on to **Blind Yeo**, a band out of Cornwall, England. I've been playing their debut album, [The Lemoine Point](https://blindyeo.bandcamp.com/album/the-lemoine-point?ref=joeyplunkett.com), all week. It's a bit funky, a little psychedelic, with some great grooves, and it has that Khruangbin-ness of being fun and engaging when you really tune in and wonderful background noise when you're doing other stuff. It's been on while I work a lot, which lately is a space reserved for electric lofi, jazz, or Chopin. Ohh, and the lead singer has a bit of an alt-J thing going on. I don't hate it. - Man, Season 13 of [Alone](https://youtu.be/h5J1sGmoSMA?si=oB6UX91FhmIWX5bn&ref=joeyplunkett.com) is a banger. If you're not in on this show: ten contestants, all possessing, at least theoretically, impressive outdoorsman chops, are dropped usually in northern Canada (the best recent seasons have been in the Northwest Territories) and film their attempts to outlast each other living off the land as summer turns briefly to fall before winter sets in. This year is billed as a World Championship, with survivalists from seven countries. It's a truly impressive and immersive show (the drone shots of the north woods they use as cut shots deserve an award by themselves), and Macy and I love judging the contestants from the couch over a hot dinner. Netflix has the show but runs a season behind, so each year we buy the season outright, and this season in particular it's paid off. Shoot me a note if you're interested. I have real thoughts about which seasons a newbie should start with.
