# Milk delivery.

- I've got a little side project in the fire that should make it easy to always have the right playlist for any scenario. As an aperitif I've put together a post containing [some new playlists for some common situations you might find yourself in this summer](https://www.joeyplunkett.com/some-playlists-for-your-consideration-and-events/). I provided 'tasting notes' for all of them so you can really tell if they'll be exactly what you're looking for. Guess which playlist has tasting notes that reads: *One or more literal uncles are present. Extra wide New Balance sneakers. Coolers filled with ice. Fresh cut grass. Char from an old grill. Strawberry popsicles.*
- I really can't claim to be a minimalist, but I am a bit of a gear enthusiast, and there's a strange overlap between those communities. So I can't say I want to copy Jeremy Maluf, [who has lived out of one backpack since 2015](https://jeremymaluf.com/onebag/?ref=joeyplunkett.com), but I do have the same backpack as him and love it. If you have very little gear, you have to care about its function, form, and quality - which is exactly what gear nuts do too, just with less impulse control. This all means that I love seeing his yearly update on what he carries (linked above), and I find his [digital minimalism post strangely](https://jeremymaluf.com/personal-data/?ref=joeyplunkett.com) inspiring, though aspiring to something isn't the same as doing it.
- Since moving to our new house in December we've been [getting milk delivered](https://www.royalcrestdairy.com/?ref=joeyplunkett.com) each week. I really, really enjoy it. That's pretty much all I wanted to share here. I didn't think I'd care that much, but look at me now - looking forward to it like a little mini Christmas. I even enjoy putting the empty bottles back into the box and watching them disappear, replaced by freshly (and I imagine 'lovingly') filled ones. Makes me feel a part of my community? Anyways, if you're curious, here's your permission to sign up for delivery. It's great.
- I'm deep in Steinbeck season right now, doggedly working my way through [East of Eden](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/4406.East%5Fof%5FEden?ref=joeyplunkett.com) while simultaneously reading [The Pearl](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5308.The%5FPearl?from%5Fsearch=true&from%5Fsrp=true&qid=NYeYIDX4HG&rank=1&ref=joeyplunkett.com) (also by Steinbeck) as a little side quest for a very informal book club I do with friends. I'm not proud of the rate I'm getting through it, but each time I consider putting it down it rewards me the way only a [long meandering summer](https://austinkleon.substack.com/p/big-books-for-summer) book can. What other 'long' summer books should be on my list? Don Quixote is staring at me from my bookshelf...
- Since kickoff I've been enjoying having the World Cup on. Mostly it's background ("ohh cool, Colombia's playing Uzbekistan"), but I'm still floating from the [USMNT opening win](https://youtu.be/BXD1%5FmhODBU?si=3R8yxPuYbFC7pxaA&ref=joeyplunkett.com), which was very much in the foreground (I was at a sportsbar with what felt like every other soccer fan in Denver). Still, the soul of US soccer isn't found in a tournament that comes around once every four years. For a sport that's been in the wilderness here for a long time, that soul lives in our oldest competition, the [US Open Cup](https://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/article/the-world-cup-is-coming-the-soul-of-american-soccer-is-already-playing-in-the-us-open-cup-050001001.html?.tsrc=1317&ncid=crm%5F-2061178-20260416-1--A&bt%5Fuser%5Fid=js%2BCz8dTgdRcuATF4ca1rRsxk3o7Bk8caJ6V0%2Fu3L6kxHazMuzW4TO6G8QsGcvqO3k8aqF6tvsMcU1ARRW4CvORsqmgp7oPxCThZPB8QMENl80rpYK5%2Fk77i3j4RLHau&bt%5Fts=1776343866978&ref=joeyplunkett.com), which has kept the flame alive since 1914.
